How to Establish Your Filter's Baseline Pressure

Restart the pump. Water will flow in reverse through the sand bed and out the waste line. The sight glass on the valve (a small clear dome) will show turbid or brown water initially as the filter media is flushed. Run until the sight glass or waste water discharge runs consistently clear, typically 2 to 5 minutes.

Turn off the pump again

Stop the pump fully before moving the valve from BACKWASH to RINSE. Same rule as Step 1: never rotate the valve under pressure.

Rotate to RINSE

Turn the valve to the RINSE position. RINSE runs water briefly in the forward direction through the sand to re-settle the bed after agitation and flush any remaining backwash residue out the waste line before it can return to the pool. Do not skip this step: skipping RINSE can send cloudy backwash water back into the pool.
